Ex-Svangsta Employees
From what I understand Goran Enocson and his gang of mates gather together a couple of times a week to discuss the great times working for ABU at Svangsta.
Some memories follow, thankfully in English and Swedish.
I personally would be thrilled and think it a great honour if any or all would write to me here to share more memories, images of their times at the ABU factory.
I know a lot of you guys by name but not personally...so drop me a line please...so many of you are responsible for my ABU fishing pleasure and indirectly for me building this website for posterity sake...The next generation want to know about the 'ABU Golden era'

Minnen från en tid av fiske som barn,
ABU och deras fiskekataloger, rullarna och svågerns alla fisken
jag var tvungen följa med på. Tanken på en rulle, som min andra svåger hade, var
en Ambadesseur, spinnrulle, av enklare sort. Jag använde öppen haspel, fick ändå
sällan fisk från vårt kustfiske utmed Västkusten. Jo bakom allt var att den
21 mars 2012 gav Posten ut 4 nya
frimärken - ett av dessa var nämnt
Fiskeredskap
(övriga är Hönsraser, Fotokonst och Norden vid havet - livet på havet). Japp,
söka var mitt ledord!
Så, i början av
1950-talet introducerade företaget ABU sportfiskerullen Ambassadeur.
Ännu produceras rullen och den har tillverkats i tiotals miljoner exemplar. Abu
är numer Abu Garcia, tillverkare av sportfiskeutrustning. Företagets huvudkontor
ligger i Svängsta (tätort) vid Mörrumsån i Karlshamns kommun i Blekinge (län).
Historien kort bakom Abu så.
Henning Hammarlund
var en man på genomresa genom landet för att hitta en plats att starta sin
urfabrik. Han kom till Svängsta och lade grunden för Halda-fabriken som
tillverkade fickur.
C.A. Borgström
var en av fabriksarbetarna, tidigare friställd efter första världskriget, som
under de svåra åren för Halda-fabriken öppnade en ny urfabrik i samhället (AB
Urfabriken) 1921, som senare utvecklade spinnrullen för sportfiske. 1980 köpte
ABU upp sin nordamerikanska distributör Garcia och fick därmed sitt nya namn.
1974 köpte ABU upp spötillverkaren Arjon.
Först ut var år
1941 med Abu Record (rulle) och så, 1952: Ambassadeur (rulle),
en s.k. multiplikatorrulle, även kallad för spinnrulle, multirulle eller "bait
casting reel" på engelska. Rullen är placerad ovanpå fiskespöet. Tillverkningsår
på denna var - 1952-1958. De fanns som röda, gröna och svarta, Record
Ambassadeur, rullarna är mycket sällsynta och - det ryktas om att det skall
finnas en gul variant! Om du har en, värd guld! Reklamen skrev om den
"världens första och enda rulle med helt frikopplad spole i kombination med
revspridare och centrifugalbroms."
Företaget ger ut
Napp och Nytt, en tidning för sportfiskare.
Den första utgåvan kom 1948, och tanken var att 2005 års utgåva skulle vara den
sista. Efter påtryckningar från sportfiskare utkom katalogen även 2006 och
kommer att fortsätta att utges tills vidare. Abu har också en plats för besök,
Abumuseet, med fungerande maskiner från urtillverkningen under Haldatiden som
började redan 1887. Maskinverkstaden ser ut som på 1930- talet och de flesta
maskinerna fungerar fortfarande. Monteringshallen är också i ”originalskick”.
Utställningen omfattar hundratals rullar, spön, beten, taxametrar från olika
tidsepoker. Besöka som är adressen (i sommar?) -
Holländarevägen 86 i Svängsta.
Idag ingår Abu Garcia i Pure Fishing som också består av Berkley, Fenwick, Stren,
Mitchell, Johnson, Spider och 7Strand. Pure Fishing, med huvudkontor i Spirit
Lake, Iowa i USA, och är världens största företag i sportfiskebranschen med över
1 400 medarbetare i 15 länder.
Det finns även en film registrerad som heter -
AB Urfabriken Svängsta.

Memories of an era of fishing as a child, ABU and their fishing catalogs, rolls
and svågerns all the fish I had to go on. The idea of a reel,
which was my other affinity, was a Ambasadeur, spinning reel, of a simpler type.
I used open reel, was still rare fish from our coastal fisheries along the West
Coast. Well behind it all was that the March 21, 2012 gave the Postal Service
will issue four new stamps - one of these was mentioned fishing gear (the other
is Chicken Breeds, Photographic Art and the Nordic region by the sea - life on
the ocean). Yep, look, my motto!
So, in the early 1950s the company introduced ABU Ambassadeur fishing reel. Yet
produced the reel and it has been produced in the tens of millions of copies.
Abu is now Abu Garcia, a manufacturer of sport fishing equipment. The company is
headquartered in Svängsta (urban) at Mörrumsån in Karlshamn in Blekinge
(county).
Short story behind Abu so. Henning Hammarlund was a man in transit through the
country to find a place to start their urfabrik. He came to Svängsta and laid
the foundation for the Halda-factory that manufactured pocket watches. C.A.
Borgstrom was one of the factory workers, previously laid-off after the First
World War, during the difficult years of the Halda-factory opened a new urfabrik
in society (AB Urfabriken) 1921, which later developed spinning reel for
fishing. 1980 ABU bought up its North American distributor Garcia and got his
new name. 1974 purchased the ABU spötillverkaren Arjon.
The first was in 1941 with the Abu Record (roll) and then, in 1952: Ambassadeur
(roll), a so-called multiplikatorrulle, also called the spinning reel,
multi-reel or "bait casting reel" in English. The reel is placed on top of the
fishing rod. Manufacture of this was - 1952-1958. They were like red, green and
black, Record Ambassadeur, the rolls are very rare - it is rumored that there
should be a yellow variant! If you have one, worth gold! The advertisement
posted on the "world's first and only roll with completely decoupled coil in
combination with revspridare and centrifugal."
It publishes talk, and New, a magazine for anglers. The first edition was 1948,
and the idea was that the 2005 edition would be the last. Under pressure from
anglers published catalog in 2006 and will continue to be provided until further
notice. Abu also has a place to visit, Abumuseet, with working machines from
watch manufacturing during Halda The time already began 1887. Konepaja looks
like the 1930 - century and most of the machines are still functioning. Assembly
Hall is also in "original condition". The exhibition features hundreds of reels,
rods, lures, taximeters from different eras. Visit to the address (in the
summer?) - Dutch Road 86 in Svängsta.
Today it is part of the Abu Garcia Pure Fishing, which also consists of Berkley,
Fenwick, Stren, Mitchell, Johnson, Spider 7Strand. Pure Fishing, headquartered
in Spirit Lake, Iowa, USA, and is the world's largest companies in the
sportfishing industry with over 1400 employees in 15 countries.

Jarding Karlsson
som var en mycket bra konstruktör, hade en egenhet han tyckte inte om att jobba
övertid. För att vara först hem varje kväll gick han ut på eftermiddag vid
halvfyratiden till stämpelklockan och synkroniserade sin klocka med stämpeluret.
När det var tid att gå hem gick han fem sex sekunder tidigare, när han sen tog i
stämpelkortet slog klockan över till 16.00
Detta förfarande fortsatte många år. En kväll satt Bengt Jonsson inne hos
Karl Gunnar Lassi när han gick igenom stämpelkorten. När han kommer till
Jardings kort där det alltid bruka stå 16.00 stod det 16.01 då utbrister
Karl-Gunnar spontant se på faan!!! Karlsson har jobbat över.

Clas Pettersson
fick i uppdrag att serva en press som inte utlöste. Han tog bort svänghjulet och
plockade ned pressen i minsta detalj utan att hitta något fel. Han monterade
ihop den igen. Clas började undersöka trampan till utlösningsmekanismen och fann
då att Ramström som körde pressen hade spottat snus på trampan ,det hade byggt
upp så mycket att det stoppat utlösningen. När Clas hade hämtat en kofot och
hackat bort snuset fungerade pressen igen.

Jarding Karlsson, who was a very good designer, had a peculiarity he did not
like to work overtime. In order to be first home every night he went out in the
afternoon at half-past three the time clock and synchronized his watch with
stamp watch. When it was time to go home, walked him five six seconds earlier,
when he then took the stamp card clock struck across to 16.00 This process
continued for many years. One evening, Bengt Jonsson inside of Karl Gunnar Lassi
when he went through stamp cards. When he comes to Jardings cards which always
stand till 16:00 it was 16:01 when exclaims Karl-Gunnar spontaneously see the
FAAN! Karlsson has been working on.

Clas Pettersson was asked to serve a press that is not triggered. He removed the
flywheel and pulled down the press in every detail without finding anything
wrong. He assembled it back together again. Clas began investigating the pedal
to the trigger mechanism and found that Ramstrom who ran the press had spit
snuff the pedal, it had built up so much that it stopped the release. When Clas
had brought a crowbar and hacked away snuff worked the press again.
