ABU Garcia USA Advertizing.

The Fisherman Magazine,  July 1952

ABU Safir  and Whirler mentioned

The Fisherman Magazine,  September 1953

The “Safire” version of the “Safir” spoon has always been a bit of a mystery as “Safire” was not cataloged in the US or Sweden – it was always just “Safir.”  The Fisherman article has a picture of a “Safire” along with text, documenting what most collector’s believed – that the Safire was an export lure to the US.  Also, 1953 puts it a year earlier than predicted by the “Safir” to “Safir Sweden” stamp changeover in 1954/55.  (No Safires without Sweden stamped have been found.)

"Anybody who might have unusual copies of 19th century angling magazines--especially bound volumes as that is what I collect. Should you see any at shows or while looking around, please contact me. Titles such as American Angler (1881-1900) are my cup of tea.  I look for many, many titles, too many to list.
In the meantime, hope these pages help. Happy new year!
