Significant ABU Friends
Anonymous ABU mate from Singapore
Contribution #1
A new friend from Singapore who wants to keep a low profile
has decided to share his ABU information for the benefit of all
interested.
The Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA) was a nonprofit,
international organization that represents a diverse group of
professional communicators dedicated to the sharing of outdoor
experience.
Although it is a non-profit organisation, OWAA never fails to recognise
its member for their outstanding contribution and effort. This
recognition was put forth in the form of award presentation. Some of
the awards given out (since the 1950s) includes,
a. Excellence in Craft Award
b. Ham Brown Award
c. Jackie Pfeiffer Memorial Award honors
d. Jade of Chiefs Award
e. Outstanding Board Members
In mid 1975, a few of the Abu 5000C was produced with the OWAA Crest.
It was believed that about 5 of such reels were produced for
presentation to honour her members. This is also the first time in
history that an ABU reel was seen donning on a different CREST; in this
case, OWAA.
This set of Ambassadeur 5000X was basically a complete kit,
produced to include practically everything an angler need for
their fishing requirement.
In addition to its lubricating oil and supply of spare parts, two
spools were also included in this kit (with one large line capacity
spool) so that they can be changed easily; instantly should that be
required.
Thanks for this interesting sharing my friend!
Contribution # 2 (
my broader expose on these small transition reels is here)
This beauty belongs to a line-up of aesthetically pleasing Ambassadeur
produced from the early to mid 1960s. What is appealing is their unique
yellow spacers placed against its bright red sideplate that sets them
apart from other Ambassadeur models.
A total of seven models were produced, with the 2000, 2500 & 2600
models produced in 1961, 2050 & 2650 models produced in 1963 and
1750 model produced in 1964. They are however only introduced to the
market a year after their production date.
Two different versions were produced for these line-up. The 1750,
1750A, 2600 & 2650 models were produced as free spool version and
2000, 2050 & 2500 models produced as direct drive version.
Among its seven models, the 2500 was the most difficult to find because it was only introduced to the market for a year; 1962.

A beautiful old Swedish catalog full of Record ABU images and product for sale from 1954.
Eventually this will be fully scanned and placed in the
Catalog section

I find it hard to believe that a friend own 3 Ambassadeur 5500 CDL B.A.S.S. reels
I am relliably informed they are 500 only produced from 760900 and 761000
In addition to its limited run, what makes it a very collectable item is because no spare parts were ever produced.
