Whilst I never met Dick personally, he was as close as his regular
monthly reads in Outdoors, Modern Fishing magazines for myself and so
many as we grew up over the past nearly 50 years. Before the internet
and even cheap phone calls, the medium of book and most especially
monthly magazines were the only way many of us would ever benefit from
Dick's (and others like him such as Vic McCristal, Jack Erskine
etc) vast experience. Others who knew him personally have stated that
he was a true gentle person of the fishing world, ever willing to
share his experiences with upcoming generations.
So highly thought of by management and workers from ABU at Svangsta,
that a dozen famous employees bothered to hand-sign his 5600CDL box
presented on Dick's visit there.
Who as a kid, could ever forget his myriad of books and
magazine articles?
Basics to get started in Fishing, understanding the tackle and how to
make your own fishing rod were invaluable.
Looking after one's fishing equipment like the ground-breaking ABU
Cardinal were clearly detailed.
His exploits beyond his mere personal fishing, took him, along with
other legendary peers, to establish the organization known as ANSA in
NSW 1967. The rest is well documented history.
We are all at a loss for Dick's passing.
