Gold is a Precious Metal
Favourite ABU reel images are these created by Simon Shimomura
Logically, then ABU reels are also extremely precious metal to many of us,
Should some of them not be made Golden too?
I intend to gild one of the old Record reels to make it stand out in my Collection.
My first Golden Ambassadeur reel is below.
I have just acquired a Golden Ambassadeur 5600 CDL # 770800 courtesy of a WA friend, Gavin Montgomery. Quite a story to unfold here soon. In short this reel was given to me after Gavin travelled 3000km across country to deliver it to me personally. Needless to say it was duly Christened with a Guinness and good wine. Good friend and Collector Gary Oswald ,said I indeed have been kissed by the good ABU fairy :<)
Simon Shimomura, friend and Guru of all things ABU and Mr Ambassadeur , author of the 2 Classic ABU books "My Ambassadeur and I" and "The Ambassadeur and I Final Chapter" assures me of the great collectability of this particular reel .
Take care of yourself (and the reel ..my note!) . Keep in touch
Simon"
I have researched them and it seems they started in 1963 like this one from my friend Uffe Edefuhr in Sweden. Click on the pic to view larger image.
The Palming plate version of the 5600CDL (and much less rare) is below

The ultimate ABU Group or Collection (to my mind), is the all in one Teak/Glass case issue called The Golden Collection from 1991 comprising 9 Ambassadeurs and the King Gustav 33 CDL Spinning reel.
Another later Collection is from 2006 and comprises just 3 special release guided reels.
Why not a nice Golden Record 1700?
Some models here supplied by friends in USA
